Homemade Indoor Compost Bin

I GOT WORMS!!!

I know that you are probably thinking that this is something that is completely strange. It has actually become more and more popular. Nowadays, there are a lot more people that are living in apartments, duplexes and condos. These individuals are normally not allowed to have any type of garden space. So, people are starting to figure out ways to make it work!!

LET'S MAKE A COMPOST BUCKET FOR AN APARTMENT!!

***It's a good idea to start with a small bin and work your way up if you have a place with enough space***

What you will need:

-A bin
-Soil
-Food Scraps
-Newspaper
-Red Wriggler Worms <------This is who I bought mine from

**I used a blue 18 gallon storage bin.**
1. You will need to get the bin and drill some holes in it. You need at least four in the lid and out 8 around the sides just under the handle and all the way around the bin just under the lip. The last place you should drill some holes is in the bottom. You need to make sure that you have another bin or something like it underneath in order to catch excess water. (If you are careful enough with the water then you will not have to have another bin on the bottom)

Follow Jesse's board Eco Savvy Mama on Pinterest.

2. The next thing you need to do is get some newspaper and shred it. Make sure there is a thin layer at the bottom of the bin.

3. Next, put a thin layer of soil. This can be soil from the yard or from the store. I used it from my yard and it is working great.

4. Put a thin layer of food scraps on top of the soil and repeat the process one more time.

5. RELEASE......THE.....WORMS!!!!

***Usually when they come in a package they are in a "worm ball." Just go ahead and set the worms right into the bin all together and they will do their thing :) ***

Happy worming!!!
