Want to go to the coast? Go on a mini-vacation?

Hi everyone!!

Have you thought about taking a vacation but it's too expensive?

What happens when you don't have a car or the money to rent a car?

HERE IT IS!!!

This shuttle is called, "The Wave."(<---Click here for the website)  It travels from Sunset Transit Center in Portland/Cedar Mill area, down the coast and toward Tillamook!

Here are the basic fares

Tillamook/Portland:

One Way $15.00
Round Trip $20.00
Child Fares:
0-4 years old with fare-paying adult FREE
First Child 1/2 Fare
Additional Children 1/2 Fare

When you use The Wave round-trip pass it will cost you $10 one-way and $10 back. This also means that you can use the round-trip pass to come back at the end of your week stay. Also, when you arrive in Tillamook or wherever you would like to go. You have the option of camping! This means that you won't necessarily have to pay and arm and a leg for a hotel.

Now, let's put this in perspective, shall we?

(Let's say that you want to go to the coast for a week.)

If the gas right now is averaging $1.95 and you get 30 miles to the gallon and you have a 15 gallon tank.

Driving your own car:

15 gallons X $1.95= $29.95 to fill up your tank

Now, if it is 73.5 miles to get from Portland (general) to Tillamook you will have spent:

73.5 miles  / 30 miles to the gallon= 2.45 gallons of gas X $1.95= $4.77 total to drive your own car from Portland to Tillamook.

***So, we can see that this would be a good option for getting from Portland to Tillamook if you have a car***
***This doesn't include all the driving around that you would want to do once you got there***

If you don't have a car:

Here's the average cost of a rental car:

An economy car is averaging about:
 $14/day X 7 days= $98

$98 for one week + car hold fee of approximately $250= $358

$358 for the week+ $10 basic insurance= $368 for a total rental car

If we add gas to that $368 for the rental car + $29.95 in gas= approximately $397.95 just to get from Portland to Tillamook

Also, take in to consideration that you will most likely be stressed from driving there and you won't be able to sit, relax and check out the scenery.

All-in-all it might be a good idea to drive your own car or take The Wave.

Keep watching the gas prices and you will be able to determine what would be cheaper for you.

Take care and enjoy a vacation if you can!

CHEERS!
