Coffee Filter Facts

Hi everyone!

Do you get up in the morning and instantly go for the coffee maker to make coffee?
Do you ever walk down the beverage aisle at the store and see those brown coffee filters and wonder why they say "natural" on them?

I KNOW WHY!

The natural or brown coffee filters are natural because they are not bleached white for aesthetics. Instead they are with regular unbleached paper or bamboo. The white filters are bleached in order to make them aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The unfortunate fact is that when they are bleached a chemical called, "Dioxin" stays in the filter. When the coffee runs through the filter small amounts of Dioxin are released. STRAIGHT INTO YOUR COFFEE!

DIOXIN HAS BEEN LINKED TO CANCER! Coming from a family where cancer is prominent I have switched to using the brown and natural filters. Aesthetics aren't everything.

Here is a fact sheet about the affects of DIOXIN:

Environmental Health News about Dioxins and our Exposure

Here is how the breakdown goes for people who are exposed and how, when and where it affects our bodies.

Here is a website that I found with a few little facts on it. Very interesting!

5 Products to Change for a Natural Alternative

You can buy these filters pretty much anywhere. I buy mine at Winco, Fred Meyer or even a low discount food store like Grocery Outlet.

I hope this helps notify and spread the word about the affects of aesthetics on our bodies. We do not deserve to be treated like this.

Cheers!

  1. Great articles, made me start thinking about the bleach in the tapwater.
I wonder if there is a reusable filter that might fit any coffee makers

  2. We've been using the natural filters for years. Well, Doug has. Me? Don't need filters for tea :)

  3. I've been using the brown filters forever but I and NO IDEA that there was a chemical that was a main link in cancer. WOW! You think that they would stop using it to bleach products. It turned my stomach to find this information.
