I know that most of us reading this are from Oregon or the U.S. in general. We need to remember a few things when we travel.
1. If you are on a flight to another state make sure and check your plane tickets ahead of time to see if you and your child(ren) are going to be able to sit together.
**Unfortunately, I assumed that they would automatically put mother and child together and they actually just fill seats and don't even take that into consideration. So, when we got on the plane 2 days ago. i was at the gate and told the woman that I needed to sit next to my son. She scorned me and told me that I should have told her that 15 minutes prior so that she could do something more easily. Then she told me that in order to try and get a seat i would have to talk to the flight attendant. As soon as I got to the plane the flight attendant told me that there wasn't really anything I could do other than sit in 2 seats together and ask people if we could trade seats. The first people the showed up I asked and they got pissy with me and said they were on their honeymoon and I was going to have to figure something else out. :( YIKES! The next pair of people let us have their seats.
SO, in order to avoid this talk to a travel agent, airlines, hotwire, priceline, kayak, orbitz and other to notify them that you do have a child(ren) that you would like to sit by.
2. Don't forget that most states have SALEX TAX on everything!
When we got to California i totally forgot that there is sales tax on nearly everything. I f you can play your cards right you will be able to plan what you want to do, stick to it and not overspend.
**Yesterday, we went to San Francisco to Pier 39. We went to the Aquarium, Trolly ride, lunch and parking near there for under $100. That was CHEAP! They are HIGHLY expensive down there.
3. Don't forget that if you are driving that you will eventually have to find parking. The meters are good and everything but you have to tiem it right to go back and fill up the meter.
**Yesterday, we found a parking garage next to pier 39. Unfortunately, it is expensive to park there. Something that they don't post so make sure and ask.
4. Be prepared to go places early in order not to wait in a massive line.
5. VERY IMPORTANT! In California there are MANY bridges in which you have to pay a TOLL. This ranges from $5-$15. BE prepared to have cash or be billed $25 plus a charge for billing. Also, I did not know this when I went through the toll that if you have a rental car from California they have a special sticker or sign that you can use when you go through the FASTRACK lane. What happens is you make sure to expose the sticker so that they can see it and then when you go through the FASTRACK lane they will take a picture of it and it will be billed to your rental car. They also have amonthly pass with that sticker of $14.95. If you add it up you will be saving a lot unless you are only going over one bridge. once.
Until next time!
